What is Reiki?

Concept

Reiki is a relaxing, natural healing technique based on balancing universal life force energy. The energy is known as “Ki” by the Japanese, “Chi” by the Chinese and “Prana" by a number of Asian cultures. Through bad habits and poor health choices our energy can become unbalanced or blocked, which can manifest in both physical and emotional forms. A Reiki treatment rebalances this energy and encourages homeostasis, a balanced healing environment in the body. Reiki is non intrusive therefore can do no harm and anybody can receive it no matter their age, faith or condition.

NOTE: Reiki should never be used instead of traditional medical treatment and any ailment or concern should be referred to your GP.

Origin

The idea of “life force energy” goes back many thousands of years to a time before Jesus and Buddha. Traditionally the healing method was was passed down through the generations by word of mouth. There are today many different types of Reiki lineages but most modern types of Reiki are based on Usui Reiki named after Dr Mikao Usui who is credited for rediscovering this ancient therapy in the mid 1800’s. He gave it the name Reiki.

Therapy objectives

Reiki is a holistic therapy which treats the body, mind and spirit. There is no massage or manipulation and the whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. The client normally lies down fully clothed and relaxes. The reiki practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively, on or near the body in a variety of positions in order to channel life force energy to the parts of the body that require healing.

The Treatment

During a treatment, the practitioner will focus on the clients chakras which are the seven main gateways to our energy systems and the parts that control the flow of energy around the body. It is important to remember that the practitioner is not depleting their own energy reserves, they are channeling the universal life force energy.

Benefits

What you might experience during a treatment varies from person to person but generally speaking, increased amounts of energy, increased focus and clarity, a feeling of deep relaxation, release of negative emotions and a refreshed and positive outlook are all common experiences.
